Speeding is a problem that often leads to car crashes. People know that speeding is dangerous, but with the rush of modern life, they just want to get to their destinations quickly. Unfortunately, speeding has resulted in two Texas cities ranking among the top five for the total number of speeding-related accidents.

The news report states that data from the federal government shows that Plano ranks fifth for the greatest number of speeding drivers who caused accidents out of all the cities in the U.S. with populations over 200,000. Irving was ranked second on that same list.

The study, which was put together by Compare Auto, showed that speeding-related crashes between 2013 and 2017 were high in these two cities. In Irving, over 53% of the crashes with fatalities were linked to speeding. In Plano, over 49% of fatal crashes were linked to speeding. Not making it into the top five doesn’t mean that there aren’t other cities with issues. Dallas, Fort Worth, Garland and Arlington all ranked in the top 50.

What does this study really tell you?

The one thing that you can take away from the data is that speeding does have a significant effect on people in Texas. By slowing down, many of the fatal crashes that are seen in the state could be completely avoided, saving people’s lives and saving their families from the pain that follows losing a loved one.

If you are seriously injured because of a speeding driver or lose a loved one in a crash related to speeding, you’re not alone. It’s fair to want to hold the other driver accountable for their actions, and you can — an experienced attorney can show you how.
