One of the top driving distractions is hard to avoid

Many driving distractions are technically easy to avoid. For instance, people get distracted by their cellphones all the time. But drivers could choose to leave their phones in their pockets. They could also choose to only make calls or texts after they arrive at their destination or before they leave. There are steps they can take to avoid the distraction entirely.

But this doesn’t work for all driving distractions. Some are very difficult and nearly impossible to avoid. One of these is simply getting lost in thought, which studies have found is one of the most common reasons for distracted driving accidents.

It happens without warning

The trouble with getting lost in thought is that daydreaming can happen without warning. A person’s mind just wanders. They don’t do it intentionally and they probably don’t even realize that they are doing it at first.

For example, someone may have had a tough day at the office, where a project didn’t get finished on time and their boss was not happy about it. During the drive home at the end of the day, they are overwhelmed, thinking about the status of the project, the looming deadlines or even whether or not they’re going to lose their job.

They don’t choose to start thinking about these things while they drive, but a daily commute can be rather boring. Their mind will just start wandering toward these issues that it considers to be more important, and the driver may stop paying as much attention to the traffic around them.

Seeking compensation

This is just one of the reasons why distracted driving is so common. If you have been injured in an accident one of these drivers caused, you need to know how to seek financial compensation for medical bills and more.
